Mim Tail of the dragon and biltmore
May 01-03, 2022
For this Museum in Motion (MiM) tour 38 cars left the National Corvette Museum early in the morning of May 1st, drove the Tail of the Dragon, then arrived at the Biltmore mansion in Asheville, NC. Even earlier in the morning of May 2nd we staged the 38 cars in 2 groups (20 cars and 19 cars) for a photo in front of the Biltmore. The Biltmore house was glowing in the early morning light and the cars looked great also. We spent the rest of the time touring the Biltmore house & grounds and enjoying some great food.
The 1st video below shows the road leading to the Tail of the Dragon and finally the curves of the Tail. The speed limit on the Tail was 30 MPH and was being strictly enforced on this Sunday. In fact, you will see evidence of that twice in the video. The first is a motorcycle cop on the shoulder of the road and the second is a police vehicle with lights flashing after pulling a car over. Adhering to the speed limit definitely took some of the fun out of the curves.
The video, from the PDR in the Smits car is somewhat marred by the reflection of the light colored dash in the windshield. The creaking you hear in both videos is a mystery that needs to be checked out.
The 2nd video shows the curves after the Tail of the Dragon which were actually more fun because the speed limit was higher (30, then 40, then 50) and there were no vehicles in front of us.
